Created by Carr Creek Dam, Carr Creek Lake springs from Carr Fork, a tributary of the North Fork of the Kentucky River. The lake is a family-friendly escape with plenty of water activities, including boating, fishing and swimming. Viewing wildlife also is a popular pastime since the area’s marsh environment (which is unusual for eastern Kentucky) is home to such creatures as wood duck, great blue heron, green heron, ruffed grouse, bobwhite, wild turkey, red-winged blackbird, warblers, raccoon and striped skunk.

Carr Creek State Park is a gateway to the lake. The full-service marina rents pontoon and fishing boats. The park’s campground has 39 sites with standard water and electric hookups and easy access to the waterfront.
