Mayo Mansion
John C.C. Mayo came to Paintsville as a teacher but soon became aware of the region’s potential in coal. He began buying mineral rights, eventually becoming Ky’s wealthiest citizen. His mansion, built in 1905-1912, is three stories tall with 43 rooms. Today, the mansion serves as Our Lady of the Mountains parochial school.

The Mountain HomePlace is an 1850’s working farm that sits on 27 acres. It features the McKenzie double-pen cabin, one-room school house, the old Fish Trap United Baptist Church, a blacksmith shop, and a barn with farm animals. Open April-October.
