Old Breathitt County Jail

Old Breathitt County Jail is located behind the courthouse in Jackson and is on the National Register of Historic places. The jail was built by WPA workers in the late 1930s and is constructed of native sandstone, quarried from the mountainside by local workers. The old jail is currently being renovated to house the museum and a welcome center.
