3 Mile River Trail Option: Launch from the concrete Sharp Rock Ramp located three miles of Beattyville off Hwy 52 West. From this lunch you can paddle up river just around the first bend and see the magnificent engineering of Maloney Rail Road Bridge which is still active today transportation coal trains from Hazard to Winchester, KY. Be sure too look up under the railroad bridge to see how to the bridge curves. It is very rare to find a craving railroad bridge. Exit at the Beattyville Boat Ramp or keep paddling to see the birthplace of the KY River where North and South Fork Rivers merge and exit at the Three Forks Canoe/Kayak Launch located off River Drive. 6.5 Mile River Trail Option: Launch from the river rock boat ramp under the Airdale Bridge located off Hwy 2016 and paddle downstream to the Beattyville Boat Ramp. Long this trail you will see the remnants of the L&N Railroad Line, an ancient flood watchtower, and pass under the Maloney Railroad Bridge. Exit at the Beattyville Boat Ramp or keep paddling to see the birthplace of the KY River where North and South Fork Rivers merge and exit at the Three Forks Canoe/Kayak Launch located off River Drive. 10 Mile River Trail Option: Launch from the Corp of Engineer built Booneville Boat Ramp off of Fish Creek Road in Booneville, KY and paddle downstream to the Three Forks Canoe/Kayak Launch property behind Jack’s IGA on River Drive or turn up North Fork river and exit at the Beattyville Boat Ramp. Not a house for miles on this trip. The trail is breathtaking as you paddle though 4 shoals until then the river becomes deeper and wider. Stop at Paw Paw or Buffalo Shoal for a picnic and stretch your legs.
